Equity Release Loans in the UK
Tuesday, 03 January 2006
There has been an increase in the equity release loans market in the UK. According to a financial expert, there is a big potential for equity release loans in the future. In case of equity release loans, homeowners sell their house, or a part thereof, to financial companies.
Equity release schemes are for those who are above 55 years of age. In equity release schemes, the financial company gives you a loan against your property, such as your house, either on monthly basis or as a lump sum. The financial company will recover its money by selling the house after your death. This provides a steady source of income for the elderly.
Equity release schemes have not been so successful in the past. The money raised from equity release schemes are invested in bonds. Rates of interest on such loans are variable and so, when the rates increase, the cost of equity release loans also increases. Moreover, when stock market plunges, people find it very difficult to repay the loans.
